Understanding the support provided by the
program to families

The purpose of this section is to provide transparent answers to the most frequently asked questions.

How does the support work?

Every donation directly supports a family in Havana. The donation is used to put together a complete food basket, which is delivered in person by our local team.

Is the assistance really direct?

Yes. We work without unnecessary middlemen. The food baskets are prepared and delivered directly to families by volunteers on the ground.

Where does the food in the baskets come from?

Food items are purchased locally in Havana through partnerships with independent suppliers and wholesalers. This approach allows us to source supplies directly on-site and respond quickly to families’ needs.

How long does it take for the order to be delivered?

On average, the food baskets are delivered within about two weeks of the donation, depending on local conditions.

What's in a food basket?

The food baskets contain non-perishable items, provided in various quantities, tailored to local conditions and the basic needs of families, such as: White rice, spaghetti, tuna in oil, tomato sauce, cooking oil, espresso coffee, condensed milk, peaches in syrup, mashed potatoes, diced potatoes, white beans, chickpeas, mackerel in oil, plain mackerel

Will I receive a delivery confirmation?

Yes. A visual confirmation is sent when the package is delivered, to ensure complete transparency.

Can I support more than one family?

Absolutely. You can sponsor multiple families or provide ongoing support for the initiative.

Who decides which families receive assistance?

Families are identified on the ground by our team of Cuban volunteers, based on strict criteria and an assessment of their level of need. Each situation is analyzed to prioritize the most urgent cases and the most essential needs. We also work in partnership with certain Catholic institutions in Havana, which allows us to better understand local realities and ensure that the aid we provide is fair and appropriate.

Where exactly does my donation go?

Your donation is used primarily to purchase food and cover the local logistics costs associated with distributing the food baskets.

Is Soutien Direct International a nonprofit organization?

Yes. Soutien Direct International is a nonprofit organization incorporated and registered with the Government of Canada.
