Soutien Direct International is appealing to donors for a solar energy system to support its humanitarian operations in Cuba

As of Monday, June 1, we have raised $625 in donations for this campaign.

For several months now, the energy situation in Cuba has continued to deteriorate. In Havana, prolonged power outages are now affecting every aspect of daily life, including humanitarian operations carried out directly on the ground.

In light of this situation, Soutien Direct International is launching a fundraising campaign today to install a solar energy system at its operations center in Havana.

Currently, our humanitarian team is operating on about three hours of electricity per day.

A difficult reality on the ground

From our base of operations in Havana, power outages make our work extremely difficult: charging phones, powering equipment, cooking, documenting our work, and continuing our activities in the evening have become daily challenges.

When the portable batteries our team uses run out, we often have to travel several kilometers just to find a place to recharge them.

Despite these challenges, our mission continues every day.

Thanks to the support of donors in Quebec, Soutien Direct International has already helped more than 200 Cuban families living in extremely precarious conditions.

Our goal now is to go even further:

support more than 1,000 Cuban families
continue our humanitarian documentation program in the field
maintain a direct presence among the most vulnerable people

Why choose a solar energy system?

In today’s Cuba, electricity is no longer a luxury. It has become essential to continuing to provide effective assistance.

Installing a solar system will, among other things:

to maintain essential communication between our team in Cuba and Quebec
to recharge equipment directly on site
to ensure a minimum level of energy self-sufficiency
to continue operations even during extended outages
to continue documenting the reality of Cuban families

What the campaign will help fund

The goal for this campaign is set at $1,800.

The funds raised will be used to purchase and install:

two 615-watt solar panels
an additional rechargeable EcoFlow Delta 2 battery
the wiring required for the system
installation costs and services

This system will allow our team and volunteers to work under much more stable and safe conditions despite frequent power outages.
